Too late for the convention?

Hey all,

By the time I found out about the convention, I believe it was too late!  Gotta get on this for next year, for sure.  One question though - I was wondering if anyone in the Denver, CO area would be willing (if able) to get copies of documentation, business cards, etc for me?  It would go very far in assisting me with networking, and I can reciprocate as well!

Anyone interested, in case I officially can't go?

Hello, from a new member

Hey all - just joined yesterday, and wanted to say a little hello.  I've been a SAHD full-time for 2 years, and on & off for about three years before that.  I have 3 boys, and my littlest one just started kindergarten yesterday.  Kind of proud, yet rough times, you know?  Anyway, I seem to have a lot of time on my hands now, so anyone feel free to hit me up.

Video Baby Monitor--Wireless IP camera and iPhone?

My wife has decided that our current baby monitoring system (audio only) is no longer adequate.  In the interests of intra-familial relations, I'm taking her complaint seriously, and have started investigating video monitoring systems.  There are a number of manufacturers that make what are effectively audio monitors with cameras attached (so you have a camera/microphone unit and a handheld monitor unit).  So question number 1:  Anyone have one that they like?

My goals are:

1.  LONG Range (I'd like to be able to be at my neighbor's house, next door, and still see it).

Convention 2010 excitement!

webdad's picture

I don't know if y'all are excited about the convention coming up but I am! Throughout the year I come here, read blogs and information contained within them and as usual there are some common elements in our stories and information. I think the Daddyshome group worked hard and still are at making the convention the support place for At-Home Dads and they need to be applauded for their efforts.

On the fence

Hi Guys,

I'm considering coming to convention this year but it would be my first time away from my two year old and I'd be leaving my pregnant wife alone  for the weekend.  Can some past attendees share with me what they've gotten out of the weekend?  I'd like to go but am on the fence between this and a simple weekend with some buddies.  This will be the only, and last, opportunity to have time without the wife and tot before our next arrives.  I'm sure some of you feel me.

Thanks

New feature: A home for your local group

Create a home for your local dads' group within AtHomeDad.org - use the site to advertise your group, find new members, communicate with each other, discuss local topics, and keep a calendar of events. Or, just create a listing to advertise your existing dads' group site. Your group will get better visibility rather than being buried among thousands of other unrelated sites and groups. And, you and your members get one place to check on all things at-home-dad, both national and local.

If there's not a group in your area, why not start one yourself? Create a group, describe what you'd like to do, and get the word out here.

Here's how to get started:

Wife has no libido, what can I do?

Here's my situation. She's older (39 years old) I'm younger (31). We dated for 6 years, been married for 3 years. We have a two-year old. Ever since my son was born, my wife has completely lost her libido. We have sex once a month if I'm lucky. It's gone three months (almost 4!) between sex before. I fully understand that this is part of the deal sometimes, and it's common for women to lose their sex drive, especially after kids.

School Bullying -- Tips Every Parent Should Know

By Jodee Blanco,

Author of Please Stop Laughing at Me . . . One Woman's Inspirational Story

For the past eight years, I've been traveling the nation's schools, sharing my message with thousands of students, teachers and parents that it's NOT just joking around, that when kids tease and reject one another, they are damaging each other for life. I know firsthand because from fifth grade through the end of high school I was tormented by my peers, as so many other kids are today, simply for being "different."

Letting the kids walk themselves to school - when?

trophyhusband's picture

We've been having big discussions around our neighborhood about whether/when to let the kids walk to elementary school by themselves.  Just curious if others are having the same discussion and what the outcome is...  Our setting is a highly urbanized mostly residential neighborhood in San Francisco (Noe Valley, if that means anything to you)... family friendly 'hood, lots of stop signs at the intersections, painted crosswalks at major intersections, sidewalks everywhere, neighborhood is arranged pretty much "on the grid".  We are 5 blocks from school - about a 1/4 mile.

Classic cars

bhorc's picture

Anyone in to classic cars,  I like to go out to the garage an work on my car when the wife gets home. It is a never ending project. Only problem is I can not work after the kids go to bed afraid of makeing to much noise and wakeing them.  And I may only get 1/2 hour to an hour at a time. Hard to get a lot done. But it is nice to have a little dirt under my finger nails.

Snappy Answers to Stupid At-Home Dad Questions

AlwaysHomeandUncool's picture

Much to my mother's chagrin, I owe much of my sense of humor to the usual gang of idiots at Mad Magazine. Imagine my reaction when I read this weekend that Al Jaffee, mastermind of back page fold-in, received a long overdue Reuben for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year from his peers at the National Cartoonist Society.

Vin-di-CAAA-tion!

Where would I have been without Al Jaffee, Mort Drucker's movie and TV satires, Sergio Aragones' "Spy vs. Spy" tales, Don Martin's "Adventures of Captain Klutz" and the rest? Probably on my yacht in the Caribbean, counting the millions I made in a real profession.

But I'd be counting very, very dourly.

So, in tribute to one of Mr. Jaffe's most influential works in my life, here are some "Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions" about being an at-home dad:

She Makes More Money!

A Dad’s Point-of-View, by Bruce Sallan

A recent Pew Research Center study called “Women, Men and the New Economics of Marriage (Jan. 19, 2010 by Richard Fry and D’Vera Cohn) revealed that women are making much more money, over the recent past, than at any other time in our history.  The study had the following opening: “The institution of marriage has undergone significant changes in recent decades as women have outpaced men in education and earnings growth.  These unequal gains have been accompanied by gender role reversals in both the spousal characteristics and the economic benefits of marriage.”

Trust, an abundance or a lack?

Hey guys,

I was listening to a radio morning show this morning, and they had a married couple on-air that was bickering back and forth over the husband's spending habits. What it boiled down to was that she didn't trust him, which leads me to my question to all of you.

How much trust is there in your relationship?

Trust

Pees in the potty... Poops in the pants...

Ironcat's picture

Okay, so we've been working with the potty training, and it seems to be going okay... sorta.
The boy will tell me pretty much everytime he has to go pee pee and will even wake up in the middle of the night and say he has to go pee pee so that's great...
The problem is that he only wants to poop in his pants (pull-ups, whatever). He will tell you when he has to go but bringing him to the toilet produces a fit, he says "I want to go ca ca in me pants" and proceeds to lean against a table and do just that!

at home operators

Does anyone have any experience with becoming an at home operator? I have looked on the internet. I found an article on msn and it outlined 4 major "players" in the outsourcing field. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this type of work and does anyone have any

"work" from home jobs?

thanks

New At Home Dad looking for others similar to me.....with a "What am I doing???" feeling

Matthew_Maxine's picture

To start, my name is Matthew. My wife and I met at work 11 years ago - we worked together and lived together - that was our life ever since, until Maxine has wonderfully helped us change that.  Our 1st child, born 2/28/2010 - Maxine, our daughter. I'm 38 and live in the suburbs of Chicago (near O'Hare Airport). Oh, and I am a die hard Van Halen fan...which wont make sense unless you are one too, but I just thought I would throw that out there.

How did this happen? Me staying home and not working???
