Does anybody know a good store or website for finding any variety of American made products for kids? Or at least some other 'modern' country, such as Canada, and not some third world country that doesn't have any quality control or regulation. Even if it's only a single product I'd like to know. Toys, clothes, etc.

I've refrained from buying much for my daughter since everything seems to be made in China now and I hate to think of her sucking on lead-painted plastic Einstein toys from the other side of the world all day. The massive contaminated formula problem they are having in China right now only heightens my worry.

Thanks in advance!

p.s. I did some searching on the forums and didn't see anything; not sure if I missed a discussion somewhere.

Peg Perego actually has a

Peg Perego actually has a factory here in Fort Wayne, IN. A press release I read said "The company makes children’s battery-powered, ride-on vehicles as well as other toys in Fort Wayne, and all of its baby products are made in Italy." Whether they buy parts from other places, I don't know, but at the very least they assemble something here.

Thanks

Tick Tock, have you actually purchased anything from the vendors listed on those sites? Looks like there are a few that offer more than one product (other than wood blocks); I'll have to check them out further.

local craftsmen

At least around here there are a bunch of old timers that make wooden toys for kids...by hand......also if you are near any Amish settlements, they make great toys, just like the old days.... don't know where you are from, but there are alot of craftsmen in the midwest is small communities that make toys for kids...

Amish

Good call! I can't believe I didn't think of the Amish communities in Ohio and Indian; we're just on the northern side of Detroit. We had actually been planning to cut through SE Ohio to visit the Amish area on our way back from Vermont last Fall, but had to cancel those plans when my wife became incredibly nauseous and I drove 15 hours straight home two days early. Guess what? She was pregnant ;-)

Maybe I'll trot down there in the new family cruiser and see what they have.

I have not bought anything from those sites. Let us know what you end up doing.
