(sigh)
Ok guys a “Runtime Error?” How do I get rid of it? 8 out of 10 times I click on a link in an email my Windows Internet Explorer shuts down.

I have a spywere and an virus do-hickey and ran them for hours one day to discover I was infected real bad. But now that I’m clean and vigilant I have this problem with my explorer.

Yes I know I should use a Mac. I do. It’s just not hooked up to my cable line and I can’t fight the enemies of Rome on it.

P.S. not to rub salt in an open wound...But these are the reasons I did go over to Mac
P.S.S. you can run Windows on your Mac? If you have Leopard .....the program you have on it is called Boot camp and it will provide an environment to run windows .

Other Browsers

As well as making sure your iE is up to date you could try using a different browser...
Firefox is great because there are lots of useful addons like AdBlocker

Opera

Firefox

Safari

Chrome

Go Linux

I must tell you in advance that I use windows only in the public library.

So my advice is to install Linux. Maybe Ubuntu Linux or Suse that are two of the most user friendly OS.

But if after this advice you still prefer windows or mac ($$$$), you should change the browser, try Firefox.

I run

firefox and safari on my mac and I.E. on windows on my mac
Firefox is the best browser I've come across. It hardly ever crashes.

How did the link work for you?( in my first post )

Worked well

I had been their before but thanks for the link. I read it a tad more closely this time. The concensious seems to be foxfire and I have to admit changing browsers didn't even cross my mind.

So thanks again :-)

Firefox

I use Firefox exclusively on all of my computers. I've never had a problem with it since I changed to it on the suggestion of a friend who also does computer repair for a living. I only ever use Internet Explorer now when I absolutely have to, which isn't often. I found there are only a few game sites that my wife goes to that won't run through Firefox. Everything else works well and never seems to crash through Firefox.

PC Tips

I just happened across this list of PC tips. It is pretty comprehensive. The guy who wrote it is a professor ( ie nothing to do with McAfee software). The only thing I would do differently is use VLC as my media player.

Wow

That looks great.
Foxfire is kick'n ass. I tried to "fix" my IE with a download but I don't know what add ons and plug in have to do with anything. So... I'll saty with FF.

Addons

Addons are little programs you can add to your browser similar to flash or the search bars you might have had with iE, the most popular one is adblocker which does what it says on the tin.
you can get it here:

you can check out the other addons here:
