Question for Denver Dads

Alright guys,
I have to take the family to Wyoming in a couple of weeks and we will be going through Denver -- taking I-70 and I-25 (I think that's right). Anyhoo, I wanted to stop off in the Mile-Hi City for a night and maybe give the kids something to do.

So my question is: what do you have that I can do with three kids (8, 5, and 5) on a Friday morning, wear them out -- or at least do something fun -- and still give me enough time to get going by roughly 2 or 3 p.m. (before rush hour)?

Also, any suggestions for a Springhill Suites-ish or Holiday Inn-ish hotel along the highway?

Mile High Fun

If you really want to tire them out, and provide a big thrill, you could go to Elitches amusement park. It is centrally located, just off I-25 at the Speer exit. They have lots of rides for kids and if your kids are over 42 inches tall there are many more rides. In addition to rides they have a very good water park with a wave pool, slides, rafting water rides, you name it - there are heaps of swimsuit amusements. It opens at 10 and the crowds are not too bad on Fridays. Google "elitches denver" for more info.

The Denver zoo is pretty good as well.

If your kids like skateboarding there is a city owned (free) skatepark that is big and also just off the highway. Our parks are very nice.

Feel free to give me more details; interests, when your coming, etc and I could pull together some better tailored suggestions. In the interim I'll ponder the question and hope to think up more ideas that are not coming to mind now.

Friday mornings are the day that our Southside group meets at 10am, and I am relativity sure that we could even meet further north if that would make things easier for you. I also have a list of things to do in Denver.

Ditto the Zoo

The Natural History Museum is nearby (walking distance) the zoo as well.
Or do downtown Denver 16th street pedistrian mall.
Childrens Museum is right there kinda, (short taxi or bus) as well.
Hotels, go online and pick one, they are everywhere. and can't go wrong with a big chain. If you hear something bad about one, chances are it's fixed and no longer an issue.

**Tip, do DB's (Uke Skywalker) southside playgroup suggestion!

Thanks for all the suggestions. They sound great. I think I will indeed try to take up that offer, Uke. I should have tried to get this to you before this Friday morning so that you could talk to the other guys. Sounds great.

I do have one caveat, and I want you to be totally honest in answering. I know this sounds weird to ask, but I will also have my wife with us, so she is gonna be the lone female (although I personally think she is pleasant to the eyes, and she promises to not a problem.) :-). But if that makes some of the guys feel odd, having a wife at a SAHD event, please, please, please tell me the truth and I won't think the less of you.

My family could still do the Children's Museum that Mile-Hi talked about (or that amusement park that B-Dub mentioned) and be happy with that too. But I just don't want to be the white man who treads on sacred Indian ground, so to speak, and bring my wife where she might be, well, a white man. If that makes sense. I hope I am not making a mountain out of a molehill.

This sort of info and offers reinforce the fact that this Oasis truly offers Resources, Information, Connections, and Community for involved dads. (Just had to throw in that plug.)
