Just had to share. And before the question gets asked, she plays defense and is the D-team captain.
The hockey playing wife

GWB, do you go to her games? Before my wife and I had kids she played in a basketball league in town, and I used to have fun watching her play alongside her sister and mother (!). None of them play any more.
My wife played rugby in college, and I saw a few of her games then. Sure would be funny if she got back into that! Of course, now all those post-game beers she used to chug would be used to wash down fistfuls of Aleve.

In addition to my duties as puck bunny, I'm the team photographer as well. They scrimmage every other Thursday (tonight is just practice), and starting Sunday night she'll be playing in the mixed league (the Blast is women only). I'll be in Nashville getting ready to go get my daughter Monday morning, so I'm going to miss it.

Going to get your daughter? How long will you get to spend w/ her?

Only a month. And I'm sure the harpy will find a way to try and cut that short.

If she calls with some sort of emergency: "What?! The phone's got too much static! I..... going.... a bridge... Call back...(Click)"
Enjoy the month. I don't expect we'll be hearing much from you. Pictures would be good, though. Take care.

Will:
Hope you have a great month with your daughter.

I'm supposed to have her until July 2nd, but I'll put good money that the harpy shows up early wanting her back before then.
I'm driving up to Nashville Sunday night, checking into a hotel and leaving Monday morning on Southwest out to Sacramento to get her. Get there at lunch, the return flight is at 5pm. Back into Nashville after midnight and back into the hotel. Drive back home Tuesday.
I love karma. We agreed that I'd just buy a one-way ticket for Mac, and she would buy the return. The wonderfully karmariffic thing about all this is my round-trip ticket cost $340ish and my daughter's one-way $160, the hotel I used points for. $400 plus gas, food, and parking total. My ex, who refuses to fly into either Nashville or Birmingham and have someone in her family pick her up, is looking at a one-way ticket from HSV back to SMF for my daughter around $800. On the low end. Plus her round-trip ticket.
When I originally suggested sending Mac as an unaccompanied minor (I used to work in Delta reservations, so I know how the whole thing works), the harpy said, and I quote, "Kids aren't allowed to fly by themselves." Never mind the fact that she was raised right here in Space Camp's backyard and thousands of kids fly into and out of HSV every year by themselves. And the fact that I did at least three unaccompanied minor reservations a day.
This is great though. Works out cheaper than putting her as an unaccompanied minor since that fee is now up to $100 each way payable only at check-in or at the airport prior to the flight, and we get some alone time on a big steel tube hurtling through the air at 400 knots. And all the while, the harpy gets hit hard in the pocket.
