I was fat before, and I'm still that way. I might fluctuate a pound or three here and there.

If I don't run...

dbrigham's picture

...I gain weight. And I haven't been running lately.

Once I'm recovered from the vasectomy I'll get back out with my daughter in the jogging stroller. But I need to really crank up the mileage or I'll just stay the same weight. I'm pretty good staying away from sweets, except my son just had his birthday party and the fridge is jammed with leftover cake. He won't eat it (hard to believe, right?) and my wife won't touch it.

Never trust a skinny chef

Gained some. I became the full time cook for the family, so that's part of it. The other big part is that I left a job where I walked all day. Now I'm not walking nearly as much.

less active as he becomes more active

When my son was an infant I would go walking all over town using a stroller, but as he became older more and more of our time consists of me sitting down while he runs and climbs.

Weight down . . .

fitness and running mileage way up (of course, when you're starting point is zero miles and minimal level of fitness that's not saying much).

I owe it all to my YMCA -- great childcare rooms and nice people.

Why do kids want a desert after every meal?

I've definitely lost weight but not as much as I could. I've become much more active, surely that's from 2 kids running all around. In an attempt to be in better shape & loose those lbs., I have worked out more by setting different event goals whether it by cycling, running or skiing. Most important for me and the family is that the work outs give me a stress outlet and some time for myself.
Jim, treat yourself after this weekends Mt. Wilson Trail Race. Those post race cookies, candies and beers are well deserved.

More of the weight is since being married.

I've put on nearly 50 lbs since meeting my wife. Now I have just lost 20 of that doing Weight Watchers since March. The only bad thing is that I threw out my back yesterday and an recliner bound today.

Up 35 pounds

AtHomeDaddy's picture

When working , I was running programs at a recreation center. So I seldom sat at my desk for more than a few minutes. I was always on the move with the kids.

Even though I am still on the go, it take a lot less energy to keep up with my 2 kids than 40 or 50 other kids.

Plus around here it is always snack time. Like having a concession stand open 24 hours a day.

Down 35

huskertko's picture

Left my job last April to be FT AHD and have lost 35 pounds since then. My wife has never seen me this thin, I am weighing less now than when we got married, heck I weigh less than I did when I graduated college 13 yrs ago. I have 15 pounds left to lose and then I will be done losing and then the hard part of maintaining starts.

I am working at the YMCA in the evenings so that is helping with the exercise part, when we are slow, I "test" the equipment to make sure it is functioning correctly.

gain 40 pounds in 4 years

Itux's picture

Well, I move to US 4 years ago, and since them I start winning pound after pound, now I'm heavier than ever. But been at home has made me more "easy going" in the gaining weigh spiral. Hope this summer I can start a routine of exercise, and loss some pounds before thanksgiving.

I got a gut

mywifes_houseb..ch's picture

Well in my first 4 years of being home I gained about 30lb's the kids were real small and did not move much and neather did I pluse with Maines long winters I would get a little depressed and do some baking and eat a hole batch of cookies in 3 days and then make a pie or brownies. But in the last 2 years I have started cutting back on the bindge eating (my wife has started hiding the goodies I make) and I have a small lawn care buisness now and I do most my lawns with a 33" self propelled walk behind I do not have to push but I walk and one lawn I do I walk 3 miles by time I am done and I have lost the waight I gained then some I feel better and in the winter the kids get me out now and playing so I do not eat all winter + I snow blow 4 drives and shovel a few roofs and we bought one of them Gazell machines to work out on and I love it.

Lost a little and look and

GuitarDad's picture

Lost a little and look and feel better if I don't say so myself :) It's kind of funny, when I see people I havent' seen in a couple years they typically say I look much more relaxed, sometimes even say I look younger. It's a great side benefit of getting out of the corporate stress machine.

My turn

sfoster's picture

My wife just lost a whole bunch of weight and looks hot. Or, as my five-year-old son says, "Mommy, you look hotter than a five-million year old stegosaurus!" (considering his love of dinosaurs, it was actually a compliment.)

Now it's my turn. I think I'll look up Mile-Hi's old thread about Weight Watchers and give that a shot. Thirty pounds by Saturday. That's my goal. :-)

Lost 10 the first week...

mikeSAHD's picture

It's amazing how much weight you lose when you are sleep and food deprived! Unfortunately, over the last 2 months the 10 lbs. suddenly appeared...hmmm, could it be that I haven't been exercising as much? I was going every morning. Now I'm lucky if I go 4x weekly.

Just Wait

Michael, wait until you have 3 kids...I'm lucky to get to the YMCA for a work out 1 or 2 times a week. :P

I thought I'd stayed the same.... then I just tried to get dressed for a graduation ceremony we have to go to. Um, it turns out none of my old dressy work clothes fit in the waist. By a lot. Damn.

Gained initially, lost a lot recently

When my wife and I were first dating I was 5' 11 1/2" tall and I weighed just under 250 lbs. Then we started dating and things went to pot. I continued to balloon and my blood work told the doctors on was on the fast tract for dying far too young. The family moved to Omaha NE in 2006 and my weight had gotten up to 317 lbs. Over Thanksgiving weekend in 2006, the wife (who was overweight as well) approached the subject of weight loss surgery and asked for my support. I figured what a better way to show my support then by having the surgery as well. I am currently maintaining a weight of about 188 lbs and I just about one year post op. Hope that it continues to go well for me. If any one would like more details, please feel free to contact me.

Bantamweight

My daughter was born on a Wednesday and that Saturday, the day after bringing her home, I came down with something fierce and lost 10lbs in 24 hours. Having started out at a mere 135lbs, it immediately cut into muscle mass and I've never felt so horrible in my life. Add to that I had to be quarantined from my newborn baby, my first and only, for 2-3 days. It sucked.

Since then I've only got back 5lbs and that's where it looks like I'm staying for a while. I was 140-something when we got married almost 7 years ago.

I'm an avid runner - that's always been the key to staying thin for me. Plus I have a metabolism that is insane and people would always tell me throughout my 20's "just wait until you hit 30!" Well i did hit 30, almost 2 years ago, and my metabolism is *faster* than when I was in my 20's.

Run Cos, Run!

Go RAW

Silent October's picture

I've only been on raw foods for 7 days now, but I can already tell that this is the way for me to lose the unwanted pounds I've accumulated through lack of diet and exercise. I started at about 270 and am hovering around 260 right now. In just 7 days. No notable exercise other than wrestling with and chasing around my almost-2 year old.

I think this is probably the most natural weight loss method when things have gotten too out of hand to deal with the weight any other way - by cutting out all of the junk (only natural sweets, like honey & fruits), eating the freshest foods one can find (veggies), savoring all of the awesome flavors and learning how to think about food differently - which seems to be the true issue with those of us who may be a few to a few hundred pounds over what our ideals may be. (that and genetics...can't forget those - thanks mom & dad!)
